An Open Letter To The Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival

Dear Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival,

It’s kind of amazing to me that you exist. So many of my favorite people and all for free! Let’s review:

Ruthie Foster, Hugh Laurie, M. Ward, Steve Earle, Kris Kristofferson, Ralph Stanley, Justin Townes Earle, Gomez, The Civil Wars, Emmylou Harris, Gillian Welch, Dave Rawlings, Robert Plant & Band of Joy, Frank Fairfield, Earl Scruggs, Patty Griffin.

I would gladly pay a decent amount of money to see any of these people individually and the fact that I can see them all for free in a few short weeks is baffling to me. I can’t believe it is true. There must be some kind of catch, like parking costs a thousand dollars or the only hotels nearby are more than I can afford. If there isn’t, I’m going to spend the next three weeks convincing anyone I can think of to go with me. Hope to see you soon.

Love, Amy

An Open Letter To My Grandma

Dear Grandma,

Thank you for the cookies you sent which arrived Wednesday afternoon. It is now Friday afternoon and they are completely gone. Dusty and Jerry had a few, but mostly I ate them. None of my pants fit anymore but it was worth it. You were worried they’d be stale, but no. They were heaven. It was almost like being back at Trask River Road. My next request is an entire berry pie, though I know that will be difficult to mail, so it’s okay if I have to wait until I am home. Curious kept smelling at them, I think they remind her of you. Miss you.

An Open Letter To SK’s Donuts

Dear SK’s,

Thank you for being open almost 24/7 and for making the most delicious maple bar I have ever tasted (and I have sampled a wide variety). You also deserve a good amount of thanks for always throwing in an extra donut. I know it’s coming, but it makes me so happy every single time. Nice work. You are bringing small pleasures to the donut-eating world and it is not going unnoticed. I have a friend who lives near you and we talk about your donut kindness almost every single time we talk.

Hugs and kisses and probably see you later tonight.

Love, Amy

An Open Letter To The Head and the Heart

Dear The Head and the Heart,

Since I went to your show at the Troubadour in April, I’ve had your album playing on a loop in the car and the house. Still can’t get enough. Good job.

P.S. I accidentally bought it twice, once on iTunes and once as a real-life-tangible-CD. You’re welcome.
